The War Years, Part one - Training

In February 1941, Harry received his call up papers. He had wanted to join the Royal Navy, but it
seemed they had enough recruits on that day, and my Dad ended up in the Royal
Air Force.
He began his
training at the Vicker’s Camp in Morecambe, where for two months in the summer
of 1941 he became a member of the ‘Brylcreem Boys’, a bunch of like-minded
young men thrown together for the purposes of training them for war.
The following summer he was posted to Gatwick, presumably to
continue his training. He ended up as an
armourer.
